Hi.  I've just gotten home from a two week stay in the hospital.  I don't think that I was really that sick, but the way that the weekends worked out, my stay worked out to be that long.  My heart was racing, so being afraid that drugs might slow it down too much occasionally, they put a pacemaker in to control the slow speed.  I'm scheduled for AV node Ablation, in a couple of months.  That means that they will stop any "natural" pulses that are created by me, and make me totally reliant on the pacemaker for my heartbeats.  I hope that it has a good battery.  The Energizer bunny comes to mind.

I had to miss Uncle Bob's funeral because of my hospital stay .  My regular cardiologist was away, and the "fill in" did not want the responsibility I don't think.

It's kind of stormy here today.  Louise is complaining about the snowbank that is in front of the door (and probably the garage door.  We were keeping our grandson for the day, but because of the weather, his Dad got off work at noon and then picked him up early.  Too bad. If it's not food, he will share with me.  If it's something to eat, I can forget about sharing.  He will share with Louise, go figure!

January 22 ,2011

Glenn didn't keep track of the days, so I guess that is a bit less informative. Perhaps it is time to let it go, and go by months and then years. It will be 4 years in February. Time goes by, and we have managed to find a few things to keep us occupied!
Jackie has a nice baby belly started. She is feeling good right now, the tiredness has passed, and as long as she can eat on a regular basis, she is in great spirits. It is nice to be able to enjoy the first part of pregnancy, and she appreciates it. Some of her co-workers were not so gifted. She booked us in for cleanings, as we were way over due, and gee, she wants to go for lunch with us too!
Glenn has had the opportunity to use a gait trainer at the hospital, and we are interested in having a ceiling track and trainer installed in the house. There is a fair bit of paper work involved to see if it will be covered at all by his benefit plan, so that is on my to to list. He is learning how to design web pages, and has a link to the blog on our home page. This is more than I want to know, or will ever use, but it has more than made time fly for him. He comes away with a distant look in his eye and I know he is working out a particular code that didn't go the way he wanted it.
I'm going to announce that we have booked an auction sale for June 6, 2011. We'll let the equipment go before it is worth less than nothing. It will be interesting to see if the spring is wet, as our yard is in dire need of a tonne or two of gravel! That should keep us busy until the baby arrives, which is toward the end of June. I hate to do it, but it is time to move to the next stage, whatever that may be.
Christmas in the new house was great, I thought it would cause a few more pangs, but it is set up so much better, that I just can't complain or wish for the old one back. All the kids came for dinner on Christmas day, in spite of the nasty weather we were blessed with that day. Jackie and Johnny got me out to shop on boxing day which I had sworn to never do, but the deal on a big TV was more than enough to get us motivated, although if the first one had fit in their car, I wouldn't have left home. They bought a TV and tried to load it, but couldn't, so they called me to bring the RAV, and since the children had given us gift cards toward a new TV, I took them along a bought one too. So now Glenn can read the menu on the TV screen from his chair. He has hooked up a laptop, and we have an HDMI cable, and a Wii, so we are just entertainment central.
Colin and Chelsey were stuck at home yesterday, the wind and snow actually blocked the highway right in front of our yards, so they had company from a car full who got stuck at 5:00 AM. They were in bunny hugs and were out of minutes on their cell phone. Our tractor wouldn't start, so Colin just told them to call 911, and gave them some blankets to use until help arrived. The police actually started turning people away, and the highway plow finally punched through the blockage at around 8:30 or so. There was a tow truck there, and I saw him pull out 2 different vehicles. I didn't go out that day except to shovel snow from the path to the house. It is getting pretty deep.
Well time to wrap it up, we have hunkered in for the winter, and are looking forward to longer, warmer days to sit on the new deck with coffee, and watch the world go by.

'Til next time,
Louise

Dec., 16

Hi. I'm sorry, this probably isn't the right forum for this, but I have to say what's on my mind. Last night on the CTV news, I heard about a fellow that was arrested for transporting $3 million worth of drugs. He got off on a technicality. He's now a free man! The judge said that the police had no right to search his motor home.

The police obviosly knew what was going on before they stopped him. I don't know about you, but if it were me transporting $3 million of drugs (and I hardly ever do that anymore), I would do everything in my power NOT to get stopped by the police. My support is firmly behind the police.

It is a slippery slope. The judge had no option, but to let him go, if he thought that his civil rights had been infringed upon. But obviosly he let a guilty man go free.

December 15, 2010

Hi. It's Glenn here. I'd just like to say that my journey should be spelled with two "n"s in my name. Apparantly you can't change it after the blog has been created.

I've come to the conclusion that I must have a reasonably high tolerance for pain. I've been living with a pain in my neck for quite a while now. I've been married to her for 33 years.

We've had some exciting news at our house. We should be grandparents in mid-July of 2011. So far, Jackie is feeling fine, but she's hungry almost all the time. Johnny is looking forward to being a dad, a job which I'm sure he will be good at. I will have to get some kind of a sling so I can hold the baby!

Christmas is almost here. Merry Christmas! We're getting ready around here. It seems to get harder and harder each year to get a good gift for that special someone, I'm glad I only have to shop for that gift, it must be tough to have to get more gifts. Our tree is up, but not all decorated yet. Between the weather, and Louise being sick with a cold, it just hasn't got done yet. Johnny put it up, but we found a a string of lights that didn't work, I don't know why, it was one of the newer ones. Probably only ten or fifteen years old! We have an argument every year about which top will go on the tree. Mine, which I picked out and bought shortly after we got married (while I still had an opinion about such things), and Louise's, which she bought just a few years ago. The one that Louise bought has not got all the history behind it that mine does. Mine is a tradition.

This morning, one of Louise's piano lesson people, got stuck in our yard. The storm, that we seem to have missed the brunt of, left quite a bit of snow in our driveway. Louise had to plug the tractor in and this afternoon she blew snow. I haven't been in a tractor since my stroke. What a change. I don't really miss it. Most of the things that I was resposible for before the stroke, I can't do now. I can just do the things I want to do. I rarely do what I don't like to do, although I've been known to clean a toilet now and again.

I've been learning how to code a web page. I don't think I learn as fast as I used to. Though I was never any great shakes at it. It must be the effects of the stroke, it couldn't be old age. I'm what some might cosider as a "slow learner". Maybe I should get some help. anyway here is a link to my site www.mitchell.freeoda.com, for anyone who wants to have a look. I know that it's a weird URL, but it was a free one. (I hate paying for stuff.)

I have used a different font for my post, my hope is that it will be easier to keep track of who is writing. If it bothers you, or if you like it, please leave a coment. We read them all within one year.

October 20 - November 20

Day1315-1346
Another month has passed. The weather turned the week after our move, and has been difficult, except for the weekend of November 5-7. We have had 3 heavy snow fall storms, so I'm happy we watched them from the new house. It has made a huge difference, the garage itself is great, and I can't say that I would change much, so we did well in our choices. We need to have a party, but haven't been able to get past the weather and piano lesson start up. I'm thinking the New Year, around Glenn's birthday might be a good time, although he usually has a brutally cold day. We'll see as the time gets nearer.
His back trouble has reared it's head, and he has been in a bit more pain this week. I don't know why, but he said it felt a bit better this morning. Could be he strained it untying his shoes or something. It has no rhyme or reason, it just hurts. He has a hard time getting to his feet as a result, so transfers are a bit more difficult.
We have been settling in nicely, and I have made fairly good inroads into the boxes in the garage. I hunt for a few things now and then, and have yet to sew anything, but that will come. I have 18 students for piano lessons, which takes a bit more time than usual. 9 of them come on Wednesday, so that is what I do Wednesday! Of course, 2 of those Wednesdays were blizzard days, so I was on the phone canceling or rearranging lesson times. Winter in Saskatchewan is such a walk in the park when it comes early. I can't help but think of last year when the men working on the house foundations in November were working in t-shirts most of the time! What a difference!
At Wascana, a new ceiling track system has been installed, and Glenn has been trying it out to see if it would help him walk. It really relieves the fear of falling, so we both can concentrate on the act of walking. I think we will look into having one installed in the house. It could have a big effect on his gait training. I have to see if we will be covered by the health benefits, and that takes a bit of time too. So much has happened it is hard to keep up!
'Til next time,
Louise

October 3-19, 2010

Day 1314-1330
Our days really are numbered! Just thought of that as I counted them out. I'm at the store catching a bit of down time, the harvest rush is mostly over, so the store is more quiet these days, although I still seem to have line-ups once in a while.
I am pretty played out, although the tension of the move is over. The house was moved into Edenwold yesterday, and that went smoothly. Glenn and I sat in the RAV and watched it drive away, and I'm telling you, that is a pretty emotional feeling. A lot of our lives happened in that place. Anyway, it is gone, and now the restoration begins. The foundation was pretty wet and rotting, so it is probably a good thing that it was moved. Chances are it was going to start having trouble in the not too distant future, so Colin made the right call in building new. They had to take out a few trees to get it off the foundation, and they actually turned it around in the front yard. They had widened the lane on our side, so needed to go through the yard again with our house. We took videos of the procedure.
Let's back up to pre-move. Einar told us the trucks were coming right after Thanksgiving, so the push was on to get our stuff out! I asked a bunch of people to help, so on Wednesday the 13th we cleaned out the basement. I was pretty overwhelmed with the questions and action. They pretty well filled a dumpster with stuff, and the guys were great, moving the big things like the other piano , freezer, toy cupboard, they even took down a cupboard Glenn had built for books above the desk, and Colin will use it in his house. There was action, and I didn't sleep very well that night! Glenn was on his own again, but enjoyed the company when we broke for supper. He is doing well in the house, and we are learning the ropes all over again. We actually rented a power chair for him while we waited for our appointment to get his fixed. It was good to compare another chair.
In the middle of all this, I started piano lessons! Sorry to a couple of children who came for their lesson last Wednesday, and had to hunt me down in the chaos of the basement. It completely slipped my mind! Good thing they were family!
So, the biggest, hardest job is over, and I may now go through the boxes and sort, store, or throw out a bit more leisurely! I think I need a vacation!
'Til next time,
Louise

Sept. 22 - Oct. 2

Day 1303-1313
Hmmm... where to begin. We have been sleeping, eating and showering in the new house since last Saturday , Sept. 24. It is working out well, although we don't have enough apparatus up yet. I have been working full time at the store, so that put a crimp into unpacking and setting up tools. We haven't got the TV antenna hooked up and the internet antenna hasn't been moved yet, so unfortunately Glenn has been a bit bored. He also shorted out the joystick on the power chair, so has had to move around in the manual chair, which has its pros and cons. The first day after it happened, (he gave the chair a bit of a bath) I brought him to Avonhurst with me, but he firmly refused to come a second day, so I had a bit of tension that day and kept calling him to be sure he was managing alright. It was probably a good thing for him to have to physically move himself around, it is pretty easy to just sit in the power chair and go. I have to wait until October 14 before the repair shop will look at it, so he will get a bit better at it as we go.
My cold got to be pretty miserable, and I'm still a bit congested. It has been very eventful.
The house is great if I do say so myself. Jackie decided we needed to sleep in it last Saturday, they got together and packed and moved some furniture on Saturday while I was at work. We had another good go on Sunday, and the guys got the piano moved too, so we made real progress. I think we will have another group effort tomorrow, and then I should be able to unpack and sort through all that has come over. There is the big freezer and another piano to move from the basement. I am filling up the shelves, but will organize and throw out more stuff as we go along. It is better now that we have started, and the weather has certainly co-operated. I will sleep in tomorrow though.
'Til next time,
Louise
